After complaining about stray cattle rotting in the graves of the Marpi Veterans Cemetery, the Office of Veterans Affairs installed a temporary fence made of mesh and plywood around the cemetery to temporarily stop the growth of these cattle. According to VAO executive officer Stanley T. Iakopo, the graves of veterans and loved ones at the veterans cemetery are now secured with a mesh fence with plywood. This kind of temporary fence is about 200 feet long and 100 feet wide, with only one entrance for families to enter and visit relatives. Permanent fences will be installed in the future. The temporary fence was installed by RNV Construction. The Veterans Cemetery contains the graves of approximately 100 veterans and their loved ones.
Jacobs said that both the temporary and permanent walls were funded by the Governor’s Office and added approximately less than $10,000 in total expenditures for the expansion of the cemetery.
Iakopo said: “This is a long-standing problem about cows desecrating the Holy Land.” “There is no logical explanation to justify the desecration of our dear veterans, who defended you for [and] I am free now. This problem is still going on, I don’t understand.” He said.
Iakopo said that considering the many battles and sacrifices made by veterans buried in the cemetery, putting cow dung on the grave is very disrespectful.
Iakopo said: “Yes, I take full responsibility for this. I think society tends to forget our veterans, but we will not forget our veterans.” “I have no accusations. I am just trying to solve the problem. The problem.”
Two weeks ago, on June 25th, the VAO, the Marianas Tourist Administration, the Public Land Administration, and the Parks and Recreation Bureau met with the rancher in the Dandan DPL building to discuss the situation of the cows in violation of the grave and possible solutions.
