The governor of Georgia has approved plans for tall metal fences around buildings in response to regular protests held in the State Capitol for months.
A spokesperson for Governor Brian Kemp said that the wall is part of a $5 million security plan to protect the public and prevent property damage.
“To ensure the safety of state employees, protect the public and prevent damage to state property, the Department of Public Safety and the Georgia Building Authority have recommended substantial improvements to many state buildings,” said Cody Hall, spokesperson for the Republican Camp. . “The governor agrees with their assessment.”
The demonstration part of the fence will be installed on Wednesday, with metal rods 8 feet high and spikes on top. Access to the Capitol is limited to a few gates around the property.
